The National Art Gallery is currently presenting the Spatial Creative – Ceramic Zone (SCCZ) Exhibition from 28th November 2025 to 30th April 2026 at Level 1, National Art Gallery. The exhibition showcases 39 ceramic artworks, encompassing artistic ceramics, pottery, tableware, and sculptural artworks that highlight the diversity of techniques, creativity, and artistic approaches of the participating artists.

Interestingly, all artworks featured in this exhibition are the result of the Spatial Creative – Ceramic Zone (SCCZ) Residency Programme, which took place from 22nd to 30th October 2025. This short-term residency brought together 10 visual artists from various backgrounds to explore the potential of contemporary ceramic art in Malaysia. The participating artists include Amy Nazira, Sabri Idrus, Saiful Razman, S. Amin Shahab, Bone Alfie, Shafiq Nordin, Amer01, Khairul Izzuddin, Kenji Chai, and Tan Kai Sheuan.

Highlights from the Spatial Creative – Ceramic Zone (SCCZ) Residency Programme, held from 22nd to 30th October 2025.

The SCCZ residency programme was designed as an intensive platform, providing opportunities for the artists to create artworks directly in professional studios, under the guidance of experienced ceramic artists and experts. The residency was held at three main ceramic-making locations, which were the result of a strategic collaboration between the National Art Gallery and local ceramic studios BK Art Studio in Kuala Kangsar, Perak, Ilham Ceramic Studio in Langkawi, Kedah, and Sari Chempaka Art Village in Karak, Pahang.

Through hands-on practice and critical dialogue, the artists produced new artworks while deepening their understanding of the connections between form, function, and space in ceramic design. Beyond enhancing technical skills, the programme also strengthened networks among artists across generations and the local ceramic community, fostering ongoing collaborations and exchanges of ideas. The initiative is expected to boost the growth of Malaysia’s ceramic art ecosystem and strengthen the role of ceramic art within the nation’s contemporary art scene.
