Named after a cat’s colour appearance, Kaliko is a cosy little coffee shop that brews aromatic fresh ground coffee everyday and is made with love. That is the kind of thing you will get from a family owned business, unlike some of those franchise outlets that make coffee from an SOP book. If you know what I mean. But when the owner himself is a coffee lover, you can be sure that you will savour some good brews.
Kaliko is located along the busy “Boba Street” in SS15 Subang Jaya, just a few shoplots away from the famous Canai@15 cafe. The outlet only takes half a shoplot, so you might miss it if you’re going too fast. But the signboard is quite obvious and it’s easy to spot. Once you’re inside, you will “feel” the cat theme in the cosy little coffee shop. And no, you won’t find any cats inside.
The decor is kept to a minimum with only a few tables and a single outdoor sitting setup. Again, it is a small and cosy shop. So don’t expect to fit too many of your friends in there at once. Their concept is more towards buy-and-go. But if you wish to chill and relax while enjoying your coffee with some snacks, you can still do so.
Coffee selections are pretty much the usual ones. They serve Americano, Latte, Cappuccino, Mocha, Caramel Macchiato and some flavoured latte drinks such as vanilla, caramel, hazelnut and pandan. As for non-coffee selections, they serve chocolate based drinks as well. There are a few to choose from so if you’re a chocolate drink lover, you will have a few options to choose from. Same goes with their tea options as well.
I had a latte, just a simple option for me to have a taste. It’s easier for me to compare latte drinks because that is my usual go-to coffee drink wherever I go. No sugar of course. And from what I tasted, it’s great. In fact, it tastes better than some of the franchises that we all know out there. Like I said, when you go to a coffee place and have your coffee prepared by the owner himself, you will get a better quality coffee because it is made with love.
Only those who have passion in what they are doing can make something nice. In this case, it’s the coffee. The aroma from the freshly ground coffee fills the shop, enticing you to savour the brew even more.
For snacking, they have a few options you can go for. If you like croffles, you can give it a try at Kaliko Coffee. They offer a few croffle toppings at Kaliko. I had the chocolate spread because to me, chocolate is life. It’s not too sweet but rich in chocolate. They also have peanut butter spread, maple syrup with butter, chocolate cheese, caramel biscoff, chicken floss and plain original croffle with a scoop of vanilla ice-cream.
Speaking of ice-cream, they do serve ice-cream as well.
I went over to Kaliko with my wife and kids. My best friend came along as well. Our first impression of Kaliko is its cosiness. It has a homely feel to it. It is a good hangout place on a hot day but it can be a little crowded during lunch break. Parking can be a little difficult to get but there is a huge parking building nearby. The SS15 LRT station is also a stone throw away, about 5 minutes walking distance. And best of all, it is located in the centre of the busiest street in Subang Jaya.
Other than coffee, chocolate drinks, tea and snacks, you can also get some local kuih at Kaliko Coffee. Good to have when you’re chilling in the evening for some nice tea break. On some days, if you’re lucky, there will be cakes and other pastries as well. You can either have it there to tapau back to your workplace if you’re working nearby.
So there you go. Kaliko Coffee is a nice and cosy place to get a quick coffee fix. I would usually hangout there after dinner because that’s when I will have a craving for a good coffee and some desserts. Latte is my favourite but sometimes I will go with Americano. My wife will order the chocolate drink and her opinion of it is “thick and flavourful”.
If you’re in Subang Jaya and craving for some good coffee and some desserts, do check out Kaliko Coffee in SS15. The cosiness of the shop will make you want to stay. And the super friendly staff and owner will keep you company while you enjoy your coffee. Who knows, you might make a new friend just by being there.
